DESCRIPTION:| Deutsche Version siehe unten |\n \nThe experiences of Ukrainian refugee women dealing with integration-related bureaucracy in Germany\n \nSince the beginning of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine\, more than a million Ukrainians arrived to Germany. A majority of them received temporary protection status (aka „§24”). \nFrom the perspective of German state\, Ukrainian refugees are seen as  those having high capacity to integrate into the society and contribute to the job market as skilled workers. However\, the procedures and ideas of integration might be perceived differently by the beneficiaries.  Moreover\, the need to get through numerous bureaucratic instances can be a crucial factor in making decision of staying in Germany. While some of the refugees put responsibility on decision-making onto the state\, others oppose the idea of ‘being integrated’ since they see their time in Germany as a temporary solution and plan their future in Ukraine as soon as the security situation allows.   \nDrawing on the experiences of single Ukrainian women who received protection in Germany\, the talk will feature an anthropological perspective on person–state interactions in context of refugees’ future-planning. How do German policies for supporting Ukrainian refugees impact their stay or return decision-making? Do the policies address their needs now\, and allow them to make investments for the future\, or\, on the contrary\, hinder their integration and thus contribute to their decision to return to Ukraine\, which appears to be ‘simpler’ and ‘more predictable’? And\, finally\, how does the experience of going through bureaucratic procedures contribute to the sense of having agency and being capable of shaping their today and tomorrow? \n  \nBio \nValeria Lazarenko\, PhD in Psychology. \nPostdoctoral researcher at Georg-Simmel Zenter for Metropolitan Studies (Humboldt University\, Berlin)\, affiliated researcher of “Affective Societies” network at Freie Universität Berlin. Former Philipp Schwarz research fellow at Leibniz-Insititute for Research on Society and Space (IRS). \nShe studied social psychology at the Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko Univeristy\, and completed her PhD thesis in 2020. In her research she examined the construction of spatial identities of internally displaced people in Ukraine. Former guest researcher at the Arctic University of Norway and the University of Bayreuth. In 2021-2022 she was associated with Kyiv-based independent think tank Cedos\, where she led the project on the impact of full-scale war on the civil population in Ukraine. \nValeria’s current research interests include studies of affect and emotion associated with experiences of forced migration\, integration\, and transnational relations. \n  \nThe lecture will be held in English. \n  \nDeutscher Text:\nVortrag ‚Der Staat soll alles für mich entscheiden‘ – Die Erfahrungen ukrainischer Flüchtlingsfrauen im Umgang mit integrationsbezogener Bürokratie in Deutschland\nSeit dem Beginn des Krieges Russlands gegen die Ukraine sind mehr als eine Million Ukrainer:innen nach Deutschland gekommen. Die meisten von ihnen erhielten einen vorübergehenden Schutzstatus (auch „§24“ genannt).\nAus der Sicht des deutschen Staates gelten ukrainische Flüchtlinge als diejenigen\, die sich gut in die Gesellschaft integrieren und als qualifizierte Arbeitskräfte. Die Verfahren und Vorstellungen von Integration können jedoch von den Betroffenen unterschiedlich wahrgenommen werden. Darüber hinaus kann die Notwendigkeit\, zahlreiche bürokratische Instanzen zu durchlaufen\, ein entscheidender Faktor für die Entscheidung sein\, in Deutschland zu bleiben. Während einige der Flüchtlinge die Verantwortung für die Entscheidungsfindung auf den Staat abwälzen\, lehnen andere die Idee der „Integration“ ab\, da sie ihre Zeit in Deutschland als eine vorübergehende Lösung betrachten und ihre Zukunft in der Ukraine planen\, sobald die Sicherheitslage dies zulässt. \n  \nBio \nValeria Lazarenko\, Promotion in Psychologie. \nPostdoktorandin am Georg-Simmel-Zentrum für Metropolenforschung (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin)\, assoziierte Forscherin des Netzwerks „Affective Societies“ an der Freien Universität Berlin. Ehemalige Philipp-Schwarz-Stipendiatin am Leibniz-Institut für Gesellschafts- und Raumforschung (IRS). \nSie studierte Sozialpsychologie an der Kiewer Nationalen Taras-Schewtschenko-Universität und schloss 2020 mit ihrer Doktorarbeit ab. In ihrer Forschung untersuchte sie die Konstruktion von räumlichen Identitäten von Binnenvertriebenen in der Ukraine. Ehemalige Gastwissenschaftlerin an der Arctic University of Norway und der Universität Bayreuth. In den Jahren 2021-2022 war sie mit dem in Kiew ansässigen unabhängigen Think Tank Cedos assoziiert\, wo sie ein Projekt über die Auswirkungen eines umfassenden Krieges auf die Zivilbevölkerung in der Ukraine leitete. \nZu Valerias aktuellen Forschungsinteressen gehören Studien zu Affekten und Emotionen im Zusammenhang mit Erfahrungen von Zwangsmigration\, Integration und transnationalen Beziehungen. \n  \nDer Vortrag wird in Englischer Sprache stattfinden.
